The Sacred Body responds to the enduring impacts of the 2008 financial crisis, which devastated the Greek economy and left deep social and emotional scars that persist more than a decade later. During a month in Athens with the Athena Standards Residency, I explored the tension between the reverence for ancient Greece—often celebrated as the cradle of Western civilization—and the lived reality of contemporary Greek citizens facing ongoing existential and economic hardship.
